Privatization

The privatization process in Kosovo is administered by the Privatization Agency of Kosovo, which is the successor of the Kosovo Trust Agency regulated by UNMIK Regulation 2002/12 "on the establishment of the Kosovo Trust Agency", as amended, and all assets and liabilities of the latter shall be assets and liabilities of the PAK.

PAK holds full juridical personality and has the capacity to enter into contracts, acquire, hold and dispose of property and have all implied powers to discharge fully the tasks and powers conferred upon it by the present law ; and to sue and be sued in its own way.

PAK is focused in privatizing Socially Owned Enterprises through spin-off or voluntary liquidation. The first round of privatization was held in July 2003, and until now 495 companies were privatized (10 % of which are awaiting the completion of contract agreement). Most of the SOEs represent the agricultural and trade sectors but they can also represent other attractive business sectors.

Privatization offers a great opportunity for domestic and foreign investors to utilize valuable natural resources, land, equipment and entire enterprises with trained and skilled employees.
